The 2018 season made up for the challenges of the previous season; perfect conditions prevailed throughout the ripening season yielding pristine fruit and this time, a healthy sized crop as well. The finished red wines from this season have quickly established themselves as wines of quality, character, distinction and a source of great delight.
As we are located in a cool climate region, our shiraz grapes ripen very slowly and late into autumn. This leads to a shiraz style that has enticing and complex spice aromas, layers of toasty mocha and a palate that is elegant yet intense. Whilst a contrast to the bigger shiraz wines often associated with Australia, this is a wine that complements a range of food styles without dominating flavours
After some 18 months maturation in barrel and a further 2 years in bottle, this shiraz has emerged from its slumbers and is a striking example of how elegance and intensity in cool climate shiraz can be so pleasing. Spice mingles with toasty oak with hints of mocha and tobacco leaf layered with dark olives, charcuterie and dark stone fruit.
These elements fold onto the palate… where the balance, harmony and integration of smooth enveloping tannins leaves your palate yearning to explore the wine further.
